Central Coast Micro Weddings: An Italian Summer an Hour from Sydney

Close your eyes for a second.

Cobblestones underfoot. Terracotta & sandstone walls holding the last of the afternoon sun. Wrought iron balconies stacked above you, hanging baskets tumbling greenery from every level, and fairy lights strung across the sky. Cocktail tables scattered through a courtyard. Somewhere out of sight, a fountain.

Somebody is laughing on a balcony. Someone else is carrying out a pizza.

You’ve been picturing this in Puglia, or Positano, or a small town outside Florence.

It’s an hour and a half from Sydney. This is where we plan some of our favourite Central Coast micro weddings.

Planning a Central Coast micro wedding

The piazza

There is a Mediterranean village on the NSW Central Coast that most people drive straight past.

Step in from the street and it stops making sense in the best possible way. Arches and stone. A glass roof throwing soft light down into the courtyard through the afternoon. Corridors that feel like they belong in an old European town rather than 5 minutes from the beach.

It’s the closest thing to a genuine piazza we’ve found anywhere in Australia, and almost nobody knows it’s there.

No flights required

Here’s the part that matters.

A European wedding is a beautiful idea, right until you start working out who can actually come. It’s almost always the people you’d most want in the room – grandparents, an elderly aunt, the family for whom a long-haul flight simply isn’t happening.

An Italian summer an hour and a half up the M1 changes that entirely. Sydney guests drive up in ninety minutes. Locals are already here. Nobody takes a week off work, nobody books a flight, and everybody comes.

You get the courtyard, the long table, the noise and the warmth – and your whole family in it.

Made for a micro wedding

A smaller guest list suits this place enormously.

Everyone stays together

Thirty people fill a courtyard beautifully. Nobody is stranded at a far table or shouting across a dance floor. It feels like a very long dinner with the people you love, which is rather the point.

It needs almost no styling

When the floor is cobblestone and the walls are already covered in greenery, you don’t need much. A couple of urns of flowers and the place does the rest.

It’s undercover

Which on an Australian spring afternoon is worth a great deal. There’s a glass roof over the main courtyard, so the light stays lovely and the weather stops being a worry.

The kind of day it suits

Relaxed rather than formal. Cocktails in the courtyard as the light drops. Antipasto down the middle of the table. Something hot out of a wood oven while everyone is still mid-sentence. Long dinners rather than a run sheet.

If you want a seating chart for a hundred and twenty and five courses served to time, this isn’t your place.

If you want thirty people, very good food, and a night that feels like a European summer – it very much is.
