The Best Elopement Locations in NSW, Australia

There is no one best place to elope in NSW. Each region offers its own blend of natural beauty and quiet intimacy. From the pristine shores of the South Coast to the sweeping vistas of the Blue Mountains, here are the places we return to again and again when planning a day worth travelling for.

Where to elope in NSW

South Coast Beaches & Jervis Bay

The South Coast beaches, including the renowned Jervis Bay, present a stunning seascape for an elopement. Imagine exchanging vows on soft white sand, surrounded by crystal-clear water. Quiet, beautiful, and perfect for couples who want the ocean and very little else.

Kangaroo Valley

In the heart of the hinterland lies Kangaroo Valley, a charming and secluded spot. Surrounded by mountains and deep green paddocks, it offers a tranquil setting for couples who want to be enveloped in nature, with morning mist sitting low in the valley.

The Blue Mountains & Wolgan Valley

For something more dramatic, the Blue Mountains are a must-consider. This World Heritage area, with its rugged cliffs, deep valleys and cascading waterfalls, makes a spectacular backdrop. For added privacy, head to the secluded Wolgan Valley, where sandstone escarpments rise on either side and luxury meets genuine wilderness.

Central Coast Headlands & Bouddi National Park

The Central Coast is a blend of dramatic headlands, serene beaches and untouched bushland. Bouddi National Park in particular is a coastal wonderland, with secluded beaches, picturesque walking trails and panoramic views of the Tasman Sea. It’s ideal for couples who want coast and bush together.

Bells at Killcare is a striking setting for an after-ceremony stay. Its Hamptons-style cottages and suites, surrounded by manicured gardens and national park, create a sophisticated yet relaxed setting for a gourmet dinner once the day is done.

Byron Bay

Byron Bay is the epitome of laid-back luxury, with its iconic lighthouse and pristine beaches. The town offers a blend of beach vibes and upscale charm, while the hinterland behind it – Bangalow, the Tweed Valley, the country around Mount Warning – is quieter and just as beautiful.

Albury & Corowa

Towards the southern border, Albury and Corowa offer a picturesque mix of heritage and natural beauty. These towns, with their rich history and scenic views along the Murray River, provide a serene backdrop for an intimate ceremony, with the Rutherglen wine country just across the border.

Oakhill Estate, Bathurst & the Glasshouse Cabin

Oakhill Estate in Bathurst is a hidden treasure for those seeking rustic elegance. The estate’s Glasshouse Cabin, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, offers a unique and serene setting. Breathtaking country views and a genuine stillness make it ideal for a peaceful, intimate elopement.

Sydney

If the harbour is what drew you here, you needn’t leave the city to find somewhere beautiful. There are quiet coves, harbourside gardens and headlands with the skyline behind you that most visitors never find.

New South Wales is a mosaic of beautiful locations, each offering a distinct and memorable setting for an elopement. Whether you’re drawn to the tranquility of the hinterland, the majesty of the mountains or the serene beauty of the beaches, there’s somewhere here that will feel like it was waiting for you.

Where is the best place to elope in NSW?

It depends on the landscape you love. Jervis Bay and the South Coast for white sand and turquoise water, the Blue Mountains for dramatic cliffs and valleys, the Central Coast and Bouddi National Park for coast and bushland together, Byron Bay for laid-back warmth, and Kangaroo Valley, Bathurst or the Murray River for country settings.

Do you need a permit to elope in a NSW national park?

Often, yes. Many NSW national parks and council reserves require a permit for a ceremony, and the cost and lead time vary from place to place. Some need several weeks’ notice. We arrange this as part of planning.

Can you get married on a beach in NSW?

Yes, and it’s one of the most popular choices. Some beaches are council managed and need a permit, others sit within national parks with their own requirements. Quieter beaches and headlands are usually easier than busy patrolled ones, particularly over summer.

How far are these locations from Sydney?

Most are within an easy drive. The Central Coast is about an hour north, the Blue Mountains ninety minutes west, Kangaroo Valley around two and a half hours south, Jervis Bay three hours, and Bathurst roughly three. Byron Bay is a short flight or a long drive north.
